Went with the family to see a matinee performance of Les Misérables at the Academy of Music at Kimmel Cultural Campus
I knew the basic premise and I had watched some of the movie, which as is typical, is different from the musical. So, I didn’t know what to expect.
It was mostly terrific
The entire thing was amazing. The performers were wonderful, the orchestra was great, and the sets were miraculous. My only minor complaint, the story lagged at times. Not long. And it was for dramatic effect and to move the plot along. Maybe I’ve been sullied by social media with a short attention span. But for very brief periods my attention did wander.
Usually I found myself looking around at the ornate architecture of the academy of music. I haven’t been there in years so i enjoyed observing it again.
Of course my attention would return to the stage – and once again I was mesmerized and amazed. my daughter loved it. And I suspect I’ll be listening to the soundtrack for the next few weeks.
But it was an amazing show and a great performance. If you have the opportunity to see it I’d take it. And it was a great family outing.
