I’m a huge fan of the original. I’ve watched it dozens of times. I shared it with my daughter when she was young and she became a huge fan. She’s even a big fan of the broadway musical version.
So to say I was super excited for a sequel is an understatement. And to have most of the original cast back was tremendous.
But then I saw the movie
It’s terrible, terrible, terrible. I sat amazed at just how awful it was. The story is awful. The music is super awful. The cameos or minor parts are unnecessary and out of place. Canonical mistakes abound. And it left me angry that something I waited decades for could have been done so poorly.
I’m sure some will like it. But I am squarely in the camp that does not. That thinks this should be dismissed and forgotten like Burton’s take on Willy Wonka. Maybe it should have been made by a different director that would have stayed more true to the original.
Maybe someday a third film will be made that doesn’t suck like this one. I will remain hopeful that bettlejuice beetlejuice bettlejuice will redeem the franchise someday. Until then, I’ll try to forget this abomination and continue to watch the original.
